gustav_01.jpgIt's Time to Help

Every disaster comes to a single horrible moment for each person that’s affected.  With Hurricane Gustav predicted to hit landfall in the next 36 hours the Greater Chattanooga Area Red Cross is preparing to care for evacuees.  By midnight, Saturday, August 30, 2008 approximately 150 people fleeing this deadly storm will be calling a Chattanooga shelter “home”.

The good news is that your local Red Cross is a strong Regional Chapter with many well trained and experienced volunteers.  Within hours of being notified that we were to manage the Chattanooga shelter we had cots set up and volunteers in place to help.  Working in cooperation with state and local agencies arrangements have been made for medical care, food and even an animal shelter for those evacuating with pets.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW!

Your local Red Cross is running low on funds due to a record number of local home fires which has drained our disaster assistance fund -- we need your help NOW so that we can continue to help those in need – especially during this emergency.

Please click here to donate using our secure site or send your check to 801 McCallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37403; make sure you make the check payable to Chattanooga Red Cross so that the funds go towards helping support local shelter operations and our volunteers already deployed to the Gulf Coast.  To help hurricane victims in the Gulf Coast visit www.redcross.org.

After 91 years Greater Chattanooga Area Red Cross knows it can rely on the community to support this important work.  Thank you!

In July our volunteer Disaster Action Team helped 122 people who suffered losses due to 18 fires in the Greater Chattanooga Area and provided more than $20,597 in direct assistance to clients. Without your support, and the hard work of our volunteers, we would not have been able to provide comfort, food, shelter and clothing to 39 families. Read DAT Gram
